Dome Cameras
When discretion is important, dome cameras really come into their own. Anyone visiting your home for legitimate reasons (your friends, family and the postman) will likely not even notice they're there. Conversely, anyone actively looking for cameras, probably because they're up to no good, will spot them easily and more than likely be deterred.
Domes are vandal resistant and extremely hard to remove from a wall without the correct tools. In fact, we haven't had one vandalised or taken in the last 5 years.
Domes come in graphite or white, call 0800 158 8229 and we'll help you choose.
Bullet Cameras
Bullet cameras (named after the shape of the body of the cameras) are much more obvious than domes and much more likely to be spotted by neighbours and visitors to your home. They provide identical images for the same specification camera and most have a sun screen to block direct sunlight from entering the lens.
They only real weakness of a bullet camera is in the bracket itself. Because of the nature of the shape of a bullet camera, they are much easier to pull off a wall and therefore and more likely to be vandalised if someone is intent on doing such a thing.
Both bullet and dome cameras have infra red night vision which is automatically activated via a light sensor in the camera itself - when it get's dark, on go the infra reds,
About Your Cameras
The cameras we specify all use the Sony 1/3" CCD (Charged Coupled Device (the light sensitive bit that captures the images). This gives much greater image quality that the 1/4" CCD used by many other installers.
The cameras range from 420TVL (medium resolution) to 700TVL (Ultra high Resolution). TVL stands for Television Lines and is the number of lines that make your image. The more lines, the higher the resolution.
Whether you choose dome or bullet cameras, you can rest assured that the results will be almost exactly the same. The only difference between bullets and domes is that most bullet cameras come with an adjustable sun shield. Under certain circumstances, dome cameras can generate lines accross the screen if facing the sun, the sun shield eliminates this but it does attract spiders!
